I began my Japan Rail Pass today with a sleek, fast train from Tokyo to Matsumoto, a small town nestled in the “Japanese Alps.” To be sure, the scenery outside the train often looked European, Norwegian even, and the town turns to be a center of Western classical music, theater, and fine art. The local draw is its castle, but that didn’t take long to walk around.
I found a lovely small vegan restaurant, no small feat in a place know for horsemeat sashimi, but after that, I sat on a bench and read an Irish mystery.
Here are some photos. Enjoy!
Live all you can. It’s a mistake not to.
