Jaipur, Astronomy, and Astrology

Today included a long drive to Jaipur, which is a lovely, ordered, and tidy city, so unlike other Indian cities I’ve visited. Much of the drive was straight, paved, and passed through farmland, so the intensity level – and smog – was much reduced. Yea on both accounts.

We made a visit to Jantar Mantar, the UNESCO listed Royal Observatory (tons of UNESCO sites in India) which was totally awesome with all its advanced astronomical devices of the 1700s, as well as to a museum located in parts of the current royal Jaipur king’s palace.

While at the Royal Observatory, our guide ran into his astrologer, and I was able to arrange to have my Indian Vedic chart made. The biggest news from it? I’m a “good communicator” and I’m going to have a quick and easy death! Whaddaya know.

Side note: the hotel I’m staying in is the Narain Niwas Palace, where scenes from The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel were filmed.

Here are some photos for your enjoyment.
